Welcome to The Gumball Machine!

I’m Oliver, and this is my blog! I am here to make life interesting (to read anyway.) I will be posting about whatever I feel like, but that can be a little scary to hear. Right now, my interests include current events in politics, tech politics (we’re talking patent wars), music and music theory, and all sorts of other stuff. I hope you enjoy reading about my experiences, thoughts, and opinions!

How to use this site

This site is divided up into sections, or categories. The home page of this site, accessible either from the menu bar or by clicking the blog header, is the main collection of these.

The main blog feed is where all of the posts go, regardless of what category they fall into. If you read this site for the politics, you’ll not want to wade through all of my tech coverage to find a few good political cartoons, so you would go to the home page and navigate to the Politics section where all of my political-type posts go.

The list of categories on the home page will change as my interests do. I probably won’t take categories away, but more will be added, which will expand the scope of this site and make it more interesting for more people.

I don’t want to try to do everything. The idea isn’t that The Gumball Machine will cover all of the topics in the world, the idea is that it will cover most of them and in an easy to read format.

Posting habits

I post when I post. That being when I have something interesting to say.

If I don’t have anything to say that will add to life, I won’t make you read it. During the summer I generally post more and longer articles because I have more time to do so.

I’ve given up on having a schedule, because it encourages low-quality articles with even lower quality content. It’s the recipe for the type of YouTube channel which always starts with, “Hey guys, it’s me!” and ends with, “Click the Like and Subscribe button at the bottom of the video!” If I feel pressure to write SOMETHING all the time, the things that I write will feel forced and not as interesting.

Why should I bother signing up?

When you sign up, you can comment on my articles, thoughts, and possibly fallacies. It’s important to note that if you sign up with the little sign up button at the top, you will not get emails about my posts. If you (for some odd reason) want emails about my posts, you can put your email in that there little box on the right side of my site.

Also, for now I manually create accounts, so if you send the form and at first nothing happens don’t be alarmed! It usually takes about a day or so for me to approve an account.

Terms and conditions of commenting

Aha! Now there’s the rub! I do have some basic requirements for commenting. Below are the terms and conditions for commenting:

I reserve the right to edit, move, or remove any comments to my discretion. Please refrain from swearing, and crass, cruel, unholy language.  If I see any language that comes from an R rated film, I will remove it.  After more than one offense, the user’s account may be terminated. These conditions are, of course, subject to change.

Thank you!

Just keep in mind that young children with their whole lives ahead of them read this blog. They should be allowed to keep they're innocence. I reserve the right to change these conditions at any time.

Please note: It may take about a day or two before your request is processed, because I always approve accounts manually. Please understand!

Attention: It has come to my attention that for some reason after completing a signup form you may be shown an error page. Uh... Dat's a bug. Don't worry, the form still gets sent and is being processed.
